David B. Thompson, a South Carolina native is currently Professor of Music at Limestone College in Gaffney, SC where he teaches private and group piano, music theory and history, accompanies the college - community chorus, and is Co-Chair of the Musical Theatre major. A nationally certified piano teacher, Dr. Thompson continues to teach students from beginner to adult while maintaining an active schedule as soloist, collaborative artist, and adjudicator. He frequently adjudicates for many organizations including the Music Teachers National Association, the National Guild of Piano Teachers and the National Federation of Junior Music Clubs. Dr. Thompson has performed in many different venues in the Unites States and in England, Germany, Austria, Korea and Iceland where he and his family lived and taught music for several years.
Dr. Thompson completed his Masters and Doctorate in Piano Pedagogy at the University of South Carolina and his BA in Piano Performance at Limestone College. He is a member of the College Music Society, Music Teachers National Association, and Music Educators National Conference. He recently completed a two year term as State President of the South Carolina Music Teachers Association.
Dr. Thompson has presented programs and lecture/recitals for various musical and historical events including the Society for American Music National Conference, The Civil War and American Society Seminar in Shepherdstown, WV, The Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC, Civil War Music Heritage Gathering and Encampment in Windham, NY, the Symposium on South Carolina Civil War History, South Carolina Music Teachers Convention, College Music Society Mid-Atlantic Conference, and for music teachers in Reykjavik, Iceland.
His publications include a CD recording entitled Confederates at the Keyboard: Southern Piano Music during the Civil War Era and a chapter of the same title in Bugles Resounding: Music and Musicians of the Civil War Era published by the University of Missouri Press.
He has also been involved with professional, amateur and college theatre companies and is very active as Musical Director for productions at Limestone College. His other interests include gardening, traveling, and restoring the family's 1903 Victorian home. Dr. Thompson lives in Gaffney with his wife Sharon and has two grown children, Jeanna and Will.
