David Hodges

David Hodges is an adjunct instructor of brass at Limestone College.  He is a native of Ware Shoals, SC and is a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Music, as well as Winthrop University.  His teachers have included:  Keith Amstutz (USC), James Ackley (USC), and Mark Dulin (Winthrop).  He has completed additional studies with Judith Saxton (NC School of the Arts) and Gary Malvern (Furman University).  David began doctoral studies at USC in 2009.

            As an educator, David spends part of his summers on the faculty of Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, Michigan.  In South Carolina, David holds a private studio in York County.  His students have consistently earned superior ratings at state festivals, as well as seats in the SC All-State bands and orchestras.  He has given brass master classes for SC public school band programs in Charleston, Cherokee, Chester, Lexington, and York counties.  From 2007-2009 he was on the instructional staff of the Fort Mill, SC School District Bands, including Nation Ford High School and Fort Mill Middle School.  Additionally, he was the assistant band director at Blacksburg High School for the 2009 marching season.  

            As a performer, David has had a wide range of experiences.  From 1998 to 2002 David performed with the jazz and blues group, The Fatback Band, in Columbia, SC.  He is recorded on their 2002 CD, The Next Best Thing.  David can also be heard on the Winthrop University Jazz Ensemble’s 2008 recording, Joyous Reunion.  Additionally, David has been a member of the Carolina Gold Drum and Bugle Corps.  In the wind band arena, David has been a member of the Palmetto Concert Band in Columbia, SC since 2004.  He has also performed with the Charlotte Civic Orchestra trumpet section for the 2007 season, and as principal trumpet during the 2008 and 2009 season.  David has also performed with the Augusta Symphony Orchestra.     

            In addition to working as a brass educator and performer on trumpet, he is also the Director of Music at Limestone Presbyterian Church in Gaffney, SC.  He resides in Rock Hill with his wife Carrie and their son, Johnathan.
