Christmas on Campus is an annual celebration held each December on the Limestone College campus. This year, we are celebrating our 29th Anniversary of this wonderful tradition.
The tradition of celebrating Christmas on Campus dates back to 1984 when the late Les Gregory, a former employee and graduate of Limestone College, arranged for 200 luminaries to be lit in honor of retired Limestone College professor Lucy G. Wheeler. With that, Christmas on Campus was born. Since Gregory's inception, the luminaries have grown from 200 to 10,000 candles and Christmas on Campus has evolved into the night of magic and wonder that we know today.
The Lighting of the Luminaries is one of several events on Saturday evening. The College's Music Department will perform a Sounds of the Season
concert. The featured groups for the Sounds of the Season
concert include the Limestone College and Community Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Gena Poovey and accompanied by Dr. David Thompson; and the Limestone Jazz Combo, directed by John Parks. There will also be a reading of the Christmas Story and the singing of traditional carols with the audience.
Following the musical selections, the crowd will gather for the ceremonial Lighting of the Christmas Tree, refreshments, and a visit from Santa Claus on the Front Campus.
Christmas on Campus is a unique opportunity to celebrate the true spirit of Christmas with the entire Limestone community - students, faculty, staff, alumni, families, and most of all - the children of Gaffney.
